How To Find Niche Keywords for Free?

By Declan Devin at 2010-05-26 00:33:53
While interacting with my students, one out of all 5 students has asked me for help in determining if their topic was particularly a good, or (better call it) a profitable one?

Given that each day the blogosphere is swarmed with thousands of bloggers, it’s quite natural for this question to crop up over and over again. We all, whether new to blogging or whether age-old in it, face the challenge of choosing the right niche. The right selection is the first big hurdle, and only your market can filter the topic for you. I can at best offer my suggestions and tips for conducting research to aide with topic selection.

Which one is “The Right Topic”?

Niche selection is pretty similar to selecting a business venture. It depends on what you write and how well you can attract the prospective buyers and make money from them. Content, as we all know, is the major driving force behind tapping traffic and converting it into future-paying members. So, Topic Selection Is A Major Deal.

Lemme offer you a simple and a workable solution for your Niche selection. It’s simple because m deliberately filtering out all the complexities like in-depth keyword research, market analysis, profit concerns etc which weigh heavy on your decisions. (Though I do not say, this isn’t important!).

More knowledge leads to a paralytic situation. You get so engrossed in research that main focus – choosing the niche- gets lost somewhere, and the Real Action Gets Delayed. So my advice comes more importantly for the newbies and strugglers who assume they know everything about everything; yet do not succeed.

So follow these simple handy guidelines to choose a niche before actually choosing it! ‘M not saying just close ears to all knowledge, but just asking you to be a lil easy & practical with yourself, before you muddle your head in each & every possible way and end up having nothing in your hands. If you are interested, to get more information, download a 70 page e-book Blog Book to Success for Free at Make Money online.

Ask Yourself: Am I interested in this Topic? Before delving into any of the writing arenas, I first ask myself: “Am I willing to write on this topic?” It might sound a lil weird, but that’s it. After all you are the one who has to express your views. So you surely need to be interested in your topic. How can you sound interesting in something that you yourself find to be boring?

So if you wanna grow popular and own a reputed blog, take time to reflect on this question “Would I enjoy writing on this topic even 1 year from now?” coz you need to build a loyal readership (and my personal experience says, you would need this much time!). So if your answer is NO, find another topic.

Assess the popularity of your Topic

While it’s important that you are passionate about your topic, it’s equally significant that even your readers are interested in your chosen topic. Law of Supply & Demand holds good even here. Unless your readers are interested to read your topic, it would be like heading in waters with cotton sacks overhead.

Not necessarily that you blog about something all are searching about; even with some readers it can be a grand success. As people actually searching for your chosen topic are your prospective buyers - your income-generating funnels.

Identify a Growing Topic

Change is the law of nature. Get your hands on a topic that is growing and on the roads to get popular. Ask yourself “what would people be searching in 6 month’s time?” and offer that to your audience. Look out in magazines, TV, newspapers, Community Forums, and all such places too hunt for more ideas.

Will You Have enough Content?

Now you need to have an access to un-limited number of useful resources to pick your content from (and I do not mean exact copying! I mean for reference purpose only).

Is your Topic a Profitable one?

If you plan to generate income from your blog, you will also need to investigate whether your chosen topic has any potential income streams. Not every topic would be a profitable source of income. Say for example, AdSense works pretty well for certain topics, but fails for others. So you need to demarcate a profitable topic from an un-profitable one.

I do agree that it’s impossible to find a topic, profitable on all the fronts. While it’s a great idea to pen down your thoughts on something of your and your reader’s interest; it is equally cardinal to check the profitability factor of these topics. Be aware and that’s all you need to do.
